Archbishop elevated to cardinal Saturday hails from Milwaukee
The role of an archbishop with Milwaukee-roots has been elevated in the Catholic Church. You can no longer call 63-year-old James Harvey archbishop. In a Saturday ceremony in St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Benedict XVI appointed six new cardinals, including Harvey. Following recent criticism that the college of cardinals is made up of mostly Europeans, the newest six are all from places outside of Europe. Those include Colombia, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, the Philippines, and the U.S. Earlier this year, the pope appointed 22 cardinals, most are from Europe. They included New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan, also with Milwaukee ties.
