Northern senators lament death of Yakowa, Azazi, 4 others

THE Northern Senators’ Forum (NSF) has described as unfortunate and regrettable the death of the Kaduna State governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, former National Security Adviser (NSA) General Andrew Azazi and four others in the ill-fated helicopter crash in Bayelsa State, on Saturday.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed and issued on Wednesday by the forum’s chairman and secretary, Senators Umaru Dahiru and Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, respectively, as they said the news of the death of the prominent Nigerians was received with shock.

The forum, in the statement, said: “During his lifetime, Sir Yakowa lived an exemplary life. He had security, unity and development of Kaduna State, vis-a-vis the whole country, at the top of his agenda. He had a high sense of humility and dedication to duty. His lack of religious, tribal and sectional sentiments earned him his popular name, “Yakowa na kowa” meaning Yakowa for all.

“General Azazi, through dedication to duty, was one of the few Nigerians to have the fastest rise in military career. He rose to the rank of a general in 2007. Among the postings, he served as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff. On retirement, he served as the National Security Adviser from October 2010 to June 2012. Concerned with the unity and security of the country, General Azazi gave a selfless service to the nation.

“The various contributions by the four other persons aimed at moving Nigeria forward would equally continue to linger in our minds. As we pray the Almighty God to give the deceased eternal rest, we equally pray to Him to give their families and the rest of Nigerians the fortitude to bear the great loss. May their gentle souls rest in perfect peace (amen).”

The forum also commiserated with and condoled the families of the deceased, the people of Nigeria in particular, the people of Kaduna and Bayelsa states for what it described as a tragic loss.
