The West African Examinations Council on
Friday said it had withheld the results of 47,289 candidates out of
396,614 candidates that sat for the Nov./Dec. 2012 West African Senior
School Certificate Examination.
The Head of the Nigeria National Office,
WAEC, Mr. Charles Eguridu, who made this known at a news briefing in
Lagos, said the results representing 11.04 per cent were being withheld
in connection with various cases of examination malpractice.
He said, “These results are being
investigated and the reports of the investigation will be presented to
the Nigerian Examinations Committee of the Council shortly for
consideration. The committee’s decision will be communicated to the
affected candidates through our zonal and branch offices.”
Eguridu said a total of 413,266
candidates registered for the examination, but only 396,614 candidates,
consisting of 216,600 males and 180,014 females, sat for the
examination.
