Shocked by the gory sight of corpses  floating on the Ezu River in
Amansea community on the Anambra  State border with Enugu State,
Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has announced N5million reward to
any person who could give useful information that could help in  getting
at those behind the corpses found floating on the river.
Governor Obi, who announced the financial reward yesterday when he
went to see the floating corpses, also declared water from the Ezu River
dangerous to the health and warned people to desist from making use of
the water till further notice.
The governor, who was forced to cut short his trip overseas where he
had gone to take part in former Secretary General of Commonwealth, Chief
Emeka Anyaoku’s 80th birthday ceremony, decried the number of corpses
floating on the river and directed the security agencies, especially the
police, to swing into action and make sure that the circumstances that
led to the corpses were unravelled and the perpetrators brought to book.
He said that he had already contacted his Enugu State counterpart and
assured that the government of the two states would stop at nothing in
making sure that whatever led to their death was unravelled.
“Human life is sacred and people should respect the sanctity of human
life, and such barbaric action as we have seen concerning these corpses
here should not be condoned in a decent society in this time and age”,
the visibly worried Governor Obi stated.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by the state commissioner
of police, Bala Nasarawa. The Commissioner of police Enugu State, Musa
Daura accompanied by a team of policemen from the state police command
had also visited the scene of the gory sight on Ezu River. He promised
that the command would join forces with the Anambra State police command
to ensure that they unravel the circumstances that led to the floating
corpses.
Residents of the Amansea community were jolted on Saturday morning
when they woke up to behold many corpses floating on the Ezu River.
Though the Anambra State police command yesterday said it had counted 18
corpses floating on the river, some eyes witnesses, however, said they
were more than 40 and that they were all males. Most of the corpses wore
 only pants and shorts.
The identities of the dead bodies  are  yet to the known.
