Gowon, Babangida, Abdusalam, others boycott Northern summit in Kano

NORTHERN leaders including governors from the region  as well as former head of states, General Yakubu Gowon, General Ibrahim Babangida, and General Abubakar Abdusalam were on Thursday boycotted the  Northern Leaders Summit, held in Kano
This is just as the gathering called on the Federal Government to institute a judicial commission of enquiry to find out the remote and immediate causes of the Boko Haram saga, how it started , those who patronised and benefitted from it.
Other prominent Northern leaders who boycotted the historic event, which was held at the African Hall of the Kano State Government House , were ex-president Shehu Shagari, General Babangida, General Abdusalam and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.
Furthermore the Vice president Namadi Sambo, who was slated for special guest of honour was also missing on the occasion as well as Senate President, David Mark, Speaker of House of Representatives , Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and chairman speaker’s  forum of Nigeria, Hon Inuwa Garba.
However the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC ) and presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari was asked to chair the occasion in the absence General Gowon.
The event, which was slated for three days from on Wednesday was tagged Northern Development Focus Initiative (NDFI), while  Alhaji Usman Farouk, former military administrator North West region, speaking at the occasion said that similar efforts in the past, aimed at bringing the North together to discuss issues affecting it fell short of people expectation because they were more of academic exercises without tangible solution to the region problem.
According to him , the NDFI having noted the security and socio-economic of the region, is determined to use the forum to find lasting solution to problems afflicting the region, pointing out that it is the duty of everyone to pull  resources together to ensure solution to them is found.
