One-metre tsunami hits Japan

TOKYO – Tsunami waves as high as one metre rolled into north-eastern Japan Friday after a magnitude-7.3 earthquake struck the region, the Meteorological Agency said.
The agency, which had issued a tsunami warning earlier, said the tsunami hit the Oshika Peninsula in Miyagi prefecture, including the city of Ishinomaki.
No damage or injuries were immediately reported from the tsunami or the 5.18pm (0818 GMT) quake, which was centred off the prefecture at a depth of 10 kilometers, the agency said.
