Soldier Kills UniJos Worker At Checkpoint

A member of the staff of the University of Jos security department was shot dead by a personnel of the special task force STF on Jos crisis.

investigation revealed that the staff member, one Mr. Wagley Dauda, was traveling passenger along with the driver of an Opel Vectra car Salisu Musa, with registration number EW 336 AA when  the duo were shot by a soldier of the special task force at Green Park Nasco Quarters, Jos
LEADERSHIP recalls that a personnel of the STF two weeks ago  shot dead a police inspector in Tunkus Mikang LGA after a mild argument at a check point.
This development created tension in the tin city as people closed their shops for fear of the unknown.
Confirming the shooting while addressing journalists in Jos yesterday, the spokesman of the task force, Captain Salisu Mustapher, said preliminary investigation conducted revealed that the soldier attempted to stop the driver who took one way opposite direction while approaching his guard location and failed to stop, and instead trying to forcefully manouvre his way out despite the soldier’s instruction for him to stop.
According to him, the driver action was suspiciousl; consequently the soldier fired shot which pierced through the left shoulder of the driver and unfortunately hit Mr Wagley Dauda in the chest.
He added that the victims were immediately rushed to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment by personnel of the task force where Mr Wagley later died.
Salisu also said the soldier was under custody and undergoing investigation.
The STF  appealed to citizens in the state to cooperate with security operatives at various duty posts.
